Indonesian film wins top prize
KYOTO, Japan (AFP): The seventh annual Tokyo International
Film Festival ended here yesterday, with top prizes going to
features directed by Hong Kong's Yim Ho and Indonesia's Garin
Nugroho.
Yim's The day the sun turned cold won the Grand Prix in the
International Competition, while Nugroho's Surat untuk bidadari
(Letter to an angel) was given the Gold Prize in the Young Cinema
section.
There were 206 entries from 46 countries in the international
contest and 230 from 42 countries in the young cinema section.
Shiju-shichi nin no shikaku (47 warriors) directed by Japan's Kon
Ichikawa won the special jury prize in the international
competition, while "Amateur" directed by Hal Hartley of the
United States, captured the silver prize in the young cinema.
"Letter to an angel" depicts a nine-year-old boy's
correspondence with a legendary angel who protects the world.
