The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) states that Indonesian fashion and accessories products recorded a potential transaction value of US$1 million, or approximately Rp 17 billion, at the Pop Up Store Kobe-Japan 2026 event. Director General of National Export Development at Kemendag, Fajarini Puntodewi, said this achievement confirms the strengthening competitiveness of Indonesian creative products in the Japanese market, which is known for its strict standards and high quality.

“The potential transactions achieved also show that Indonesian products are increasingly accepted and able to compete in the global market, particularly in segments that demand high quality and design,” said Puntodewi, as quoted from Antara on Sunday, 26 April 2026.

This US$1 million potential transaction is represented by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PT Dan Liris from Indonesia and Bee-First Co., Ltd from Japan. The signing was witnessed virtually by Fajarini Puntodewi and the Consul General of Indonesia in Osaka, John Tjahjanto, and in person by the Head of the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka, Didit Akhdiat Suryo.

According to Puntodewi, Indonesia’s participation in this event is a strategic step to expand market access and strengthen the image of Indonesian fashion, accessories, and jewellery products in Japan.

This participation is the result of collaboration between Kemendag through ITPC Osaka and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Osaka. A total of 16 Indonesian brands participated in this event through the Indonesia Pavilion. These business actors showcased accessories, jewellery, and clothing.

Meanwhile, the Head of ITPC Osaka, Didit Akhdiat Suryo, emphasised the importance of a more targeted and sustainable promotional approach. He expressed the readiness of Indonesia’s trade representatives in export destination countries to bridge business actors from both countries.

“Through integrated promotion at the Pop Up Store, we introduce high-quality Indonesian products with an approach that emphasises storytelling and emotional connections with Japanese consumers. This step is key to strengthening the penetration of Indonesian products in the Japanese market,” said Didit.

Japan is one of Indonesia’s main trading partners. In 2025, the total trade between the two countries reached US$32.08 billion, with Indonesia’s exports valued at US$17.61 billion.

In particular, for the textile and textile products (TPT) sector, Japan is the second-largest export destination with a value of US$1.02 billion, or 8.53 percent of total national TPT exports.

This positive trend continued in early 2026, with TPT exports for January-February reaching US$180 million, up 3.59 percent from the same period the previous year. Some of Indonesia’s TPT exports to Japan include ready-made garments, fabrics, yarns, synthetic fibres, creative fashion products, and creative interior products.
