Indonesian Exports to US and China Surge in January 2026, Here Are the Commodities
Jakarta — Indonesia’s exports to major trading partner nations experienced significant growth in January 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
The BPS recorded that Indonesian exports rose 3.39% year-on-year in January 2026, reaching USD 22.16 billion, with exports to the United States, China, and India all experiencing rapid growth.
“The value of exports to these three countries accounts for a considerable share of 43.77% of Indonesia’s total non-oil exports in January 2026,” stated Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution Statistics and Services at BPS, during a press conference at BPS headquarters in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
China remained Indonesia’s largest export destination in January 2026, with exports valued at USD 5.27 billion, up from USD 4.57 billion in January 2025. The principal export commodities to China included nickel and nickel products, which reached USD 983.16 million, representing a year-on-year increase of 61.72%. Iron and steel followed at USD 1.32 billion, declining 10.08%, whilst mineral fuels totalled USD 808.69 million, down 6.66%.
The United States held the second position with total Indonesian exports valued at USD 2.51 billion, up from USD 2.34 billion in January 2025. Key export commodities to the United States included electrical machinery and equipment worth USD 465.33 million, increasing 33.04%; footwear valued at USD 236.04 million, up 15.83%; and clothing and accessories (knitted) totalling USD 207.71 million, declining 4.87%.
Exports to India reached USD 1.52 billion, compared to USD 1.23 billion in January 2025. Principal export commodities to India included mineral fuels at USD 442.04 million, declining 7.84%; animal and vegetable fats and oils valued at USD 373.91 million, surging 378.08%; and iron and steel at USD 136.24 million, up 87.49%.
Beyond these three primary export destinations—China accounting for 24.80%, the United States 11.82%, and India 7.15%—other major export markets for Indonesia included ASEAN countries at 19.72%, the European Union at 6.75%, and other destinations comprising 29.76%.
