Indonesian EV Home Charging Adoption Surges: 21,865 New Users in Six Months
State electricity company PT PLN (Persero) recorded 21,865 new customers for its Home Charging Services (HCS) in the first half of 2026, signalling a massive uptick in electric vehicle adoption among Indonesians. The total number of customers utilising the home charging service has now surpassed 92,000. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the growth reflects high public interest in electric vehicles as a lifestyle choice and affirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening supporting infrastructure to meet the needs of environmentally friendly vehicle users. ‘The increasing adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia needs to be supported by easy, practical, and reliable charging services. PLN is committed to continuously strengthening the national electric vehicle ecosystem through the development of increasingly widespread charging infrastructure,’ he said in an official statement on Thursday.
PLN Retail and Commerce Director M. Fahrur Rozy noted that the surge in customers has directly impacted national electricity consumption, which rose sharply. In the first half of the year, electricity consumption through HCS reached 110.55 gigawatt hours, a 93.59% increase compared to the same period the previous year. ‘PLN sees this trend as a strategic opportunity to strengthen the role of electricity in supporting the national transportation transformation. We will continue to improve infrastructure readiness, expand access to charging services, and present innovations so that the electric vehicle ecosystem can grow sustainably,’ he said.
The growth is supported by various PLN programmes, including the HCS Ultima programme which offers added value for customers. Through this programme, customers can enjoy a special installation price starting from Rp11.7 million, a bonus electricity voucher of up to Rp1.3 million, and a 30% discount on electricity tariffs for EV charging between 10pm and 5am. The programme is valid until 31 December 2026 and applications can be made easily via the PLN Mobile application during the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show 2026. ‘The various programmes we present are part of PLN’s efforts to strengthen the national electric vehicle ecosystem. Going forward, PLN will continue to provide reliable and innovative charging services to support the acceleration of Indonesia’s energy transition,’ he concluded.
