Indonesian Engineering Students Visit PHE ONWJ Gas Pipeline Facilities
PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) received a field visit from 23 students from various universities across Indonesia at the Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF) in Muara Karang on Tuesday (5/5/2026). This visit formed part of the Pipeline Design Competition (PDC) activities during the Mechanical Festival (M-Fest) 2026, initiated by the Mechanical Engineering Student Association at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). M-Fest is an annual festival organised by ITB’s undergraduate Mechanical Engineering students, featuring activities and competitions centred on innovations aligned with their field of study. One of the competitions held is the PDC. M-Fest 2026 Executive Chair, Rafi Akbar Maulana, expressed appreciation for the reception of the group at PHE ONWJ’s operational facility. “Thank you to PHE ONWJ, particularly the Muara Karang ORF team, for the opportunity given to the PDC M-Fest 2026 semi-finalists to conduct a company visit. Through this activity, participants gained invaluable insights into the production facility operations process and the implementation of pipeline systems in the onshore oil and gas industry in a real setting,” Rafi stated in a press release on Sunday (10/5/2026). Rafi added that PHE ONWJ’s facilities align with their competition’s focus. “We selected PHE ONWJ because it is one of the strategic companies in the national energy sector with operational facilities and pipeline systems relevant to the PDC field, allowing participants to gain more applicable learning experiences,” he further explained. Welcoming the students’ enthusiasm, PHE ONWJ’s Head of Communication, Relations, CID & CSR, Ery Ridwan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the higher education ecosystem. “PHE ONWJ is always open to sharing knowledge and real operational experiences with academics. We hope that direct insights into the complexities of upstream oil and gas facilities will inspire M-Fest 2026 participants to continue innovating and, in the future, become driving forces for the advancement of Indonesia’s energy industry,” Ery said. The series of activities began with a technical presentation session in the classroom. Participants received a comprehensive overview of PHE ONWJ’s working area scope and upstream oil and gas operations. Additionally, the students were given an in-depth understanding of the specific business processes at the Muara Karang ORF, which plays a vital role as the onshore receiving facility in managing natural gas flow safely, reliably, and efficiently. After receiving theoretical material briefing, the students had the opportunity to conduct a direct inspection of the energy pipeline network facility area. In line with the company’s commitment to Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects, all field activities were carried out with strict safety standards. Through direct field observation, these future engineers could concretely witness the implementation of design, installation, and maintenance of pipeline facilities in the real world. This inspection activity is expected to bridge academic theory with actual operational practices while enriching the students’ insights in developing safe and efficient pipeline design innovations for the national oil and natural gas industry in the future.
