REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran continues to monitor the condition of Indonesian citizens in Iran amidst the escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. The embassy has even prepared evacuation options if necessary. According to the Acting Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, although monitoring indicates that the situation in Tehran and other cities remains conducive, the Level 1 Security Alert status imposed by the Ministry for Iran since June 2025 remains in effect. “All contingency plans remain in place, including various evacuation routes if needed,” Heni said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday (23 February 2026). She added that, in its efforts to monitor the safety of Indonesian citizens in Iran, the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran regularly maintains active communication with Indonesian citizens. To date, the embassy has not received any reports of Indonesian citizens facing threats, either directly or in situations that endanger their safety. However, Indonesian citizens are asked to remain vigilant and maintain communication with the embassy. “All Indonesian citizens in Iran are urged to continue to increase their vigilance, monitor the latest developments, and maintain communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran,” said the senior diplomat. Tensions between the US and Iran have not yet subsided, even though both countries have committed to continuing bilateral negotiations indirectly in a new phase in March.
