Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur Facilitates Repatriation of 3,570 Indonesian Citizens/Migrant Workers in One Year
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur has facilitated the repatriation of 3,570 Indonesian citizens/Indonesian migrant workers (WNI/PMI) from Malaysia to Indonesia over the past year, from 2025 to April 2026.
This number includes 2,595 WNI/PMI from vulnerable groups who were in Malaysia’s Immigration Detention Depots (DTI) and have been facilitated and funded for their return by KBRI Kuala Lumpur to various disembarkation points in Indonesia.
In a statement in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, KBRI KL stated that the repatriation programme is a routine activity carried out by KBRI Kuala Lumpur since 2024.
The programme operates through cooperation between KBRI Kuala Lumpur and the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM), the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, local governments, and various related agencies at the arrival points in Indonesia.
In addition to facilitating the repatriation of vulnerable WNI/PMI in various DTIs in Malaysia, during the same period, KBRI Kuala Lumpur has assisted in the repatriation of 975 other WNI/PMI from various protection and consular cases handled by KBRI Kuala Lumpur, including WNI/PMI in the temporary shelter at KBRI Kuala Lumpur.
Most of these repatriation processes utilise the Malaysian Government’s Migrant Repatriation Programme (PRM) 2.0 policy, which has been in effect since April 2024 and is now extended until May 2027.
The programme provides opportunities for WNI/PMI to return to their homeland in a safer and more orderly manner in accordance with applicable regulations.
KBRI Kuala Lumpur states that it continues to be committed to providing optimal services and protection for Indonesian citizens in Malaysia, while strengthening prevention efforts through increased awareness of the importance of safe, procedural, and responsible migration.
KBRI Kuala Lumpur also conveys its appreciation and thanks to all parties that have supported efforts to protect and fulfil the rights of WNI/PMI in Malaysia, both to Malaysian authorities and ministries, institutions, local governments, and all relevant stakeholders in Indonesia.
