Indonesian Embassy in Dili holds flag ceremony and pilgrimage to Seroja Heroes Cemetery

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Dili, Timor Leste, commemorated the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence by holding a series of activities including a flag ceremony, a community festival, and a pilgrimage to the Seroja Heroes Cemetery (TMP).

Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim of KBRI Dili, Raden Sakunto Paksi, said the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at KBRI Dili was held under the theme ‘From Citizens for Citizens’, reflecting the mutual cooperation of the diaspora and Indonesian businesses in Timor Leste.

‘No matter how small a contribution is, it has meaning when done together. This is the spirit we want to continue to maintain. Wherever we are, we remain one big Indonesian family and can support each other as fellow Indonesians abroad,’ said Raden in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

The series of commemorations for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence in Dili began with the inauguration of the KBRI Dili 2026 Flag Raising Troop (Paskibra) on Friday (14/8), to serve in the flag ceremony on 17 August at KBRI Dili on Monday.

Then, on Saturday (15/8), KBRI Dili held a community festival filled with various public activities, such as healthy heart exercise, traditional competitions for children, and a singing competition.

The pilgrimage was a moment to remember and honour the services of the heroes who died while dedicating themselves to the nation and state.

The peak of the series of commemorations for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence took place on Monday, with a flag ceremony at KBRI Dili attended by the Indonesian diaspora, representatives of Indonesian businesses in Timor Leste, and the local community.

The Indonesian diaspora who attended the ceremony wore various traditional Indonesian attire. KBRI Dili also gave prizes as a form of appreciation to participants with the best attire.

Raden assessed that the collaboration in the series of commemorations for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at KBRI Dili reflected the spirit of mutual cooperation and brotherhood of Indonesians abroad.

He also hoped that the spirit of togetherness and real contribution would continue to live among Indonesians in Timor Leste after the end of the series of commemorations for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.
