Indonesian Embassy in Bogota Supports IPhO Team

The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Bogota, Colombia, ensured the smooth running of activities for the Indonesian International Olympiad Team during the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026, held from 4 to 12 July 2026 in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Indonesian Ambassador to Colombia, Tatang Budie Utama Razak, stated that upon receiving information about the team’s participation, the embassy immediately contacted the person in charge to coordinate their departure preparations. “This included coordinating with the IPhO organisers to ensure readiness and facilitation from the host,” Tatang Budie Utama Razak told ANTARA via text message received in Jakarta on Monday. Given that Bucaramanga is approximately a 10-hour drive from Bogota, along with limited budget and embassy staff, as well as a busy schedule in the capital, KBRI Bogota was unable to accompany the Indonesian Olympiad Team directly at the event, he said. “We facilitated the team during their transit at the airport in Bogota upon arrival and departure to ensure their journey was safe and without obstacles,” Tatang added. According to the National Achievement Centre of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), the competition, which brings together the world’s best physics students, was attended by 381 participants from 93 countries (87 participating countries and 6 observer countries). At the 2026 IPhO, the Indonesian team was accompanied by two coaches, Budhy Kurniawan from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Indonesia (UI) and Getbogi Hikmawan from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). The Indonesian team won one gold medal, two silver medals, and two bronze medals at this year’s International Physics Olympiad. The Indonesian IPhO team returned home on 12 July 2026.
