Beijing (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Embassy in Beijing will be holding daily iftar meals and Tarawih prayers throughout the month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri. “We will be holding iftar meals and Tarawih prayers every day, including a Ramadan camp,” said Muhammad Iqbal Agustian Doro Putra, a representative of the Indonesian-Chinese Muslim Community Forum (LKMIT), to ANTARA at the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing on Tuesday (24 February). The iftar meals and Tarawih prayers will be held from 24 February until the end of Ramadan in mid-March 2026. The event is open to all Indonesian citizens and Muslims from various countries. In addition to the iftar meals and Tarawih prayers, the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing will also be holding a Ramadan camp in collaboration with LKMIT, the At-Taqwa Islamic Study Group of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, the Beijing Islamic Study Forum, the Special Branch of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), and the Muhammadiyah Special Branch. In the previous Ramadan, the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing only held iftar meals and Tarawih prayers three times a week, namely on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and did not hold a Ramadan camp. The series of activities in the Ramadan camp includes monitoring Mutaba’ah Yaumiyah (daily self-reflection), motivational and weekly sharing sessions, structured study sessions, Mandarin language classes, online study sessions, and the joint performance of Eid al-Fitr prayers. “Some of the activities are held in person, such as the iftar meals and congregational Tarawih prayers, followed by a short religious talk. Some are also held online and are open to the public, including students, workers, and the general public,” said Doro, who is a first-semester master’s student at a university in Beijing. The committee has also invited several prominent speakers from Indonesia, including KH Abdullah Gymnastiar, also known as Aa Gym, who will deliver online lectures. “One of the significant differences is the monitoring of Mutaba’ah Yaumiyah, so participants can evaluate their daily worship. There will be mentors to guide them, and the best participants will be recognised during Eid al-Fitr,” he said. Doro added that, to date, 87 participants have registered for the Ramadan camp, with a target of reaching 100 people. “Because we want to foster a sense of brotherhood among our friends in Beijing and outside of Beijing by using an online system, we want to embrace as many people as possible from each region, and many people from Indonesia will also participate,” added Doro. Meanwhile, at the same event, the Deputy Ambassador of Indonesia to China, Irene, said that the joint iftar meal reflects the diversity of Indonesia. “I happen to be not Muslim, but my mother is Muslim, so I am used to celebrating Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, and also Christmas. Our family is very diverse,” she said. According to her, this diversity is a strength that can be an example for the world. “I hope that this series of Ramadan activities until Eid al-Fitr will strengthen togetherness and make us better individuals. I hope that the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing can be a home for all friends and siblings, both for learning and praying and gathering with brothers and sisters from various regions in Indonesia,” said Irene. During the joint iftar meal, which was attended by about 70 people, the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing served various traditional Indonesian dishes, such as Soto Bandung, braised chicken, vegetable stew, eggs, white rice, and crackers. After the iftar meal, the event continued with congregational Tarawih prayers until around 9:00 pm local time.
