According to information received, the Musaffah 2 vessel had a total crew of seven personnel of Indonesian, Indian, and Filipino nationality. Three crew members survived, while four are still missing.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Abu Dhabi has received reports concerning an incident affecting a tug boat with three Indonesian nationals missing.
In a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, KBRI Abu Dhabi explained that the ship named Musaffah 2, flying the United Arab Emirates flag, exploded in the Strait of Hormuz, between the waters of the UAE and Oman, on 6 March at 02:00 local time.
According to eyewitnesses, Musaffah 2 suffered an explosion that caused the vessel to burn and sink. To date, authorities in the UAE and Oman are still conducting investigations into the cause of the incident, the KBRI statement said.
“According to the information received, the Musaffah 2 crew consisted of seven persons of Indonesian, Indian, and Filipino nationalities. Three crew members survived, while four others are missing,” the KBRI Abu Dhabi statement read.
The embassy detailed that of the four Indonesian nationals who were crew members, one survived and received treatment for burns at a hospital in the city of Khasab, Oman. The other three Indonesians remain missing and are being sought by local authorities.
In addition to those four crew members, there was another Indonesian who worked as a technician and was located at the incident site on a different vessel. That Indonesian is reported to be safe.
RI representatives also urged a comprehensive investigation into the incident. On 7 March 2026, the company had brought the survivor to Abu Dhabi, including one Indonesian. The KBRI has also met with that Indonesian and provided consular assistance.
In light of security conditions in the Middle East, KBRI Abu Dhabi again urged all Indonesian citizens in the UAE, including Indonesian crew members working on sea vessels, to remain vigilant, monitor developments through official information sources, and maintain communication with the nearest RI Representation.
“Please immediately report in to ensure a swift and appropriate response from the RI Representation. In an emergency, contact the KBRI Abu Dhabi hotline,” the embassy statement said.
