The utilisation of drones in Indonesia is expanding from basic mapping and documentation to industrial work, agriculture, and defence. This development is encouraging industry players to develop Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with more specific functions tailored to operational needs.

Frogs Indonesia is one company developing drone technology for these sectors. Its portfolio includes the Nakula Series for building cleaning and asset maintenance, the Sekar Agri for agriculture, and the Palapa S1 for surveillance and mapping.

The Nakula Series is developed with a cleaning system capable of pumping up to 10 litres per minute. The drone is also equipped with a 360-degree LiDAR sensor and terrain radar to assist operations around objects and building surfaces.

Chief Technology Officer of Frogs Indonesia, Rahman, said the development adapts drone cleaning technology already used in several countries, adjusting it to operational conditions in Indonesia. “Drone cleaning technology has actually started to be applied in several countries. We see that this technology has the potential to be further developed and adapted to the needs in Indonesia, especially in terms of design, cleaning systems, and field operational conditions,” Rahman explained in a statement on Thursday (13/8/2026).

Beyond industrial needs, UAV development also covers the defence sector. Frogs Indonesia is developing several UAV lines for defence requirements, including mortar droppers, kamikaze drones, and interceptor drones.

CEO of Frogs Indonesia, Adhitya Chandra, said UAV development does not only emphasise flight capability but also specific functions that can be used according to user needs. “We want the drone technology developed by Frogs Indonesia not to stop at flight capability, but to have functions that can truly answer needs in the field. Including in the defence sector, we see great opportunities to continue developing UAV technology that can support national needs,” Adhitya said.

The expansion of functions demonstrates the increasingly diverse needs for UAV technology. Besides work requiring access to difficult or high-risk areas, drones are also being used to support agricultural activities, mapping, surveillance, and industrial needs.

These various technologies were showcased at the Indonesia Drone Expo (IDE) 2026, held from 11 to 13 August 2026 at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Jakarta. The exhibition carried the theme “Unleashing the Power of Intelligent Aerial Systems”.

IDE 2026 brought together industry players to display the development of drone and UAV technology and its utilisation across a number of sectors, including industry, agriculture, logistics, surveillance, mapping, and defence.

The expanding use of UAVs means the development of the drone industry is no longer determined solely by flight capability, but also by the technology’s ability to complete specific tasks more safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the needs of each sector.
