Indonesian DPR RI's BKSAP Condemns Israeli Attack That Killed TNI Soldier
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has condemned the Israeli army’s attack on the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which resulted in the death of a TNI soldier.
BKSAP DPR RI Chairman Syahrul Aidi Maazat, in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, said that Israel’s actions once again demonstrate arrogance towards the international community. Moreover, the attacked forces were on a UN peacekeeping mission.
“We strongly condemn the Israeli army’s attack on the UNIFIL headquarters, especially since the victims include TNI soldiers. This is a severe blow to us because our soldiers’ presence is not respected by Israel,” said Syahrul.
He also expressed condolences for the fallen TNI soldier in the attack. He stated that BKSAP DPR RI pays tribute to the soldier who died while carrying out duties to maintain world peace.
“We also urge the government to conduct intensive coordination with the UN so that similar incidents do not recur and to ensure that the UN can protect the safety of dispatched soldiers through existing regulations and standard operating procedures,” he said.
Previously, Private Farizal Romadhon, an Indonesian soldier serving with UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, was killed amid the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
“I strongly condemn the incident on Sunday in which an Indonesian peacekeeper with UNIFIL was killed amid the hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres via the X platform on Monday (30/3).
The Indonesian Ministry of Defence confirmed that one TNI personnel serving with the UNIFIL peacekeeping force was killed and three others injured due to an Israeli artillery attack that occurred on Sunday (29/3).
“Two Indonesian peacekeepers lost their lives in an explosion that struck a UNIFIL logistics convoy, destroying their vehicle near Bani Hayyan in the eastern sector,” said UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix in his statement at UN Headquarters in New York, as quoted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
“Two other peacekeepers were injured, one of them seriously. We strongly condemn these unacceptable incidents, and peacekeepers must not be targeted,” Lacroix added.
