Indonesian Diaspora in Japan Supports Human Resource Readiness

The growing interest of young Indonesians in Japan as a destination for education and career development is driving the need for human resources equipped with language skills, cultural understanding, and the ability to adapt to an international environment. Amid this development, various initiatives have emerged to support the readiness of Indonesia’s young generation in facing global opportunities, one of which is through strengthening language competence and cross-cultural understanding from an early stage.

Recognising this need, an Indonesian diaspora member residing in Japan, Royyuda Agusto Ompusunggu, familiarly known as Sansan, founded Nande Nihon in August 2025. It serves as an online learning space for Japanese language and culture, focusing on developing the quality of Indonesian human resources while strengthening connections between Indonesia and Japan. According to Royyuda, mastering a foreign language alone is insufficient to face increasingly competitive global rivalry.

"Global competition requires human resources who not only possess language competence but also cultural understanding and the ability to adapt across countries. This readiness needs to be built from an early stage so that young Indonesians can compete and contribute at the international level," said Royyuda Agusto Ompusunggu.

In its journey, the community has gathered more than 750 members and is supported by around 40 active volunteers who jointly run various learning and educational activities for young Indonesians interested in Japan. Beyond language learning, various educational activities are also conducted to broaden participants’ understanding of culture, social ethics, daily life, and the dynamics of education and career development in Japan.

Royyuda believes that access to quality learning and information needs to be more evenly distributed so that more young Indonesians have the opportunity to prepare themselves for international prospects. "We hope Nande Nihon will not only be a learning space but also a bridge connecting young Indonesians with various educational and career development opportunities in Japan."
