Indonesian Deputy Trade Minister Travels to Russia to Boost Coffee and Fertilizer Sales
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Deputy Minister of Trade (Wamendag) Dyah Roro Esti has travelled to Russia to hold a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Ilyichev. During the meeting, Deputy Minister Roro affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continuing to expand strategic cooperation with Russia, particularly in the sectors of trade, investment, and industrial downstreaming.
“Trade relations between Indonesia and Russia continue to show a positive trend. We want to ensure that this momentum can continue to be strengthened through increased mutually beneficial trade and broader investment cooperation,” said Deputy Minister Roro during a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Ilyichev, in Kazan, Russia, quoted on Friday (15/5/2026).
Deputy Minister Roro said that the trade value between the two countries in 2025 reached US$4.8 billion, an increase of 21.7% compared to the previous year.
Russia is also a major partner for Indonesia in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) region, contributing 90.6 percent to Indonesia’s total trade with the region.
According to her, Indonesia and Russia have complementary trade relations. Russia is a supplier of strategic commodities for Indonesia, such as coal, fertilizer, and steel products. Meanwhile, Indonesia exports various superior products such as palm oil, coffee, coconut products, and cocoa to the Russian market.
“Indonesia welcomes the increasing confidence of the Russian market in various national superior products. We are committed to maintaining the quality, competitiveness, and sustainability of Indonesian export products in the Russian market,” continued Roro.
On this occasion, the Deputy Minister also highlighted the development of the ratification of the Indonesia-EAEU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which was signed in December 2025 in St. Petersburg. The Indonesian government is currently accelerating the domestic ratification process with the target of implementing the agreement in the third or fourth quarter of 2026.
To optimize the implementation of the agreement, Indonesia proposed the establishment of the Indonesia-EAEU Business Council (IEBC) in cooperation with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN).
“The establishment of the Indonesia-EAEU Business Council is expected to be a catalyst in strengthening relations between business actors, expanding investment opportunities, and encouraging increased trade between the two countries,” said Roro.
In addition to trade in goods, Indonesia is also opening up opportunities for cooperation in the services sector. Indonesia is considered to have skilled human resources in the fields of information technology, construction, hospitality, and digital technology that can support the needs of the Russian industry.
On the same occasion, the Deputy Minister also invited Russian business actors to participate in the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026 which will be held on 14-18 October 2026 at ICE BSD City.
“Trade Expo Indonesia is an important momentum to bring together business actors from both countries and open up new opportunities for cooperation in the fields of trade and investment,” she said.
In closing the meeting, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto to continue promoting industrial downstreaming, increasing added value, and sustainable economic growth.
