Indonesian Delegation to Khamenei's Funeral Departs Thursday Night

Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani has stated that the Indonesian Government delegation to the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will depart for Mashhad, Iran, on Thursday night. “The plan is for the Indonesian delegation to Iran to depart tomorrow night. We will fly directly from Jakarta to Mashhad, the city that will be the final resting place of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,” Muzani said when met after a visit to the Constitutional Court in Jakarta on Wednesday. Muzani said the entourage is expected to arrive in Mashhad on Friday morning. The delegation will proceed directly to the final resting place of Khamenei before attending a meeting with the Iranian Government. “We won’t be staying overnight. We arrive in the morning. The funeral is in the morning, followed by a pilgrimage, and after that, we will reportedly meet with the Foreign Minister and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament,” he explained. According to Muzani, the composition of the Indonesian Government delegation remains the same as previously planned, consisting of Foreign Minister Sugiono, himself as the president’s special envoy, and a number of ulama. “There may be several ulama joining, but I don’t know their names yet,” he said. Ali Khamenei served as Iran’s Supreme Leader for nearly 37 years. He died in a United States and Israeli attack on Tehran on 28 February 2026. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was elected as the new Supreme Leader of Iran in March 2026.
