The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) is driving the need for stricter governance, particularly in the technology and cybersecurity sectors. Amid this trend, cybersecurity firm Zentara Technologies has secured ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certification, the international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS). The certification, issued by Prescient Security under International Accreditation Service (IAS) accreditation, recognises the company’s responsible AI governance in its operations. Zentara Technologies CEO Regal Rauniyar Star stated that the achievement makes the company one of Indonesia’s cybersecurity firms to obtain ISO/IEC 42001 certification. ‘This standard underscores the importance of accountable AI governance, especially for heavily regulated sectors,’ he said on Friday (29 May 2026). ISO/IEC 42001 is the first international standard governing AI governance requirements within organisations. The standard covers the entire AI lifecycle management, from data handling and model development to implementation, monitoring, incident response, and system decommissioning. The certification process involved a two-stage audit assessing the actual implementation of policies and controls within the company’s operations. The certification encompasses AI system management on cybersecurity monitoring platforms, AI-based vulnerability assessment systems, and supporting cloud infrastructure. The audit scope also covered various organisational functions, including cybersecurity, information technology, compliance and information security, procurement, human resources, legal, and research and development. Previously, Zentara Technologies had also obtained ISO/IEC 27001 certification for information security management systems. President and co-founder Darian Kuswanto said the ISO/IEC 42001 certification has driven the company to strengthen comprehensive AI oversight. He explained that the implemented AI management system includes AI model inventory, cross-functional governance committees, model evaluation procedures, human oversight, and AI-based audit and incident response mechanisms. He noted that clear AI governance will become increasingly crucial for sectors like banking, government, and critical infrastructure adopting AI in their operations. Currently, ISO/IEC 42001 is also serving as a reference for AI regulation development in various countries. The standard has been aligned with global AI governance frameworks, including the EU AI Act and regional AI governance initiatives in Asia.
