Indonesian Cuisine Introduced to Sydney Through Warung Kopi
A restaurant owned by Indonesian entrepreneurs, Pandawa Warung Kopi in Sydney CBD, Australia, has successfully captured attention with a 4.9 rating on Google from more than 10,000 reviews. This culinary business also serves as a diplomatic mission through Indonesia’s rich culinary heritage, from nasi bungkus to coffee. “Every customer can be indulged with a complete experience, from the Pandawa restaurant which serves a variety of foods, desserts, and a selection of traditional Indonesian snacks,” said Antonius Auwyang, one of the restaurant’s founders, in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday. The restaurant, presented by a trio of architects—Sugiarto Wijono, Lily Tenacious Wijono, and Antonius Auwyang—has a mission to conquer the palates of Sydney with its signature dishes, including nasi bungkus, warm rendang pie, sticky lemper, croquettes with bursting cheese filling, pastel, and Arabica coffee. Indonesian coffee is renowned for its wet-hulling method, which produces a unique flavour profile with a thick body, low acidity, and deep earthy nuances of cedar, dark chocolate, and an inimitable trace of the tropical forest. The restaurant, located in Sydney CBD, was also inaugurated by Vice President Ma’ruf Amin for the 2019-2024 period, with the hope of further introducing the archipelago’s culinary and cultural heritage. “And the easiest main thing to introduce Indonesia to the world is food and drink. Therefore, it is very fitting that Pandawa Cafe is present in Sydney, Australia, to introduce the greatness of our country, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Ma’ruf Amin. Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Siswo Pramono assessed that the presence of this warung kopi serves as a potent remedy for those missing their homeland. “The presence of the Indonesian warung kopi and snacks offered at Pandawa cures the longing for the delights of Indonesian coffee shops in Australia,” he said.
