Indonesian corporate golf league to resume
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian corporate golf league is to resume next month with 17 companies having confirmed their participation.
Tournament spokesperson Barbara Speirs said on Wednesday that this season's league would be played over six legs at different golf courses in Jakarta and Bogor, West Java.
"There may be little of the competitive play commonly seen in a golf tournament. More importantly, the league will enable the participating companies to do business while playing golf," Speirs said.
Although no prize money is up for grabs, the theory is that all the teams could earn more from building business relationships during the league.
Each participating team is being charged a Rp 24 million (US$3,250) entry fee.
The league, in its third consecutive year, will tee off at the Rancamaya Golf and Country Club on Dec. 3. It will move on to Gading Raya Golf and Club (Dec. 17), Imperial Golf Club (Jan. 27, 1999), Cengkareng Soewarna Golf Club (Feb. 11), Gunung Geulis Country Club (March 4) and conclude at the Bogor Raya Golf Club (April 9).
With each team comprising four players, the league will boast a total of 68 golfers. Sixteen teams competed in last season's league which was won by Johnnie Walker.
International mail service company Federal Express (Fedex) is the main sponsor of this season's league, with The Jakarta Post and Republika dailies the cosponsors.
Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines also regularly hold similar corporate golf leagues. (lnt)
