Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Penang has assisted an Indonesian migrant worker in obtaining wages that were unpaid for nine years of work in Malaysia. In a statement on social media quoted on Wednesday (29/4), the KJRI stated that the worker from East Nusa Tenggara successfully obtained her wage rights amounting to 98,000 ringgit (approximately Rp430 million). The worker began working as a domestic assistant in Penang in 2017 with a promised salary of 900 ringgit per month. However, for years, that salary was not paid until the victim reported it to the KJRI Penang. In response to the report, the Task Force for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens/Indonesian Migrant Workers at the KJRI consolidated efforts to demand the worker’s wage rights from her employer. During the handling process, the worker was placed in temporary shelter. After going through that process, the employer finally fulfilled her obligation to pay the wages. The migrant worker was then repatriated to Indonesia on 26 April 2024 after receiving all her rights. The KJRI Penang also expressed thanks to all parties who assisted in the handling and repatriation process of the worker.
