Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah Verifies Identities of Three Indonesian Nationals Posing as Hajj Officials Arrested by Saudi Authorities
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah is verifying the identities of three Indonesian citizens (WNI) wearing hajj official attire who were arrested by Saudi Arabian security forces in the city of Mecca on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
“At present, KJRI Jeddah is verifying the identities of the perpetrators and coordinating with local authorities to monitor the subsequent legal process in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Director of WNI Protection at the Foreign Ministry, Heni Hamidah, at the Foreign Ministry office in Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026).
She stated that Saudi security forces also discovered several pieces of evidence, including cash, computer devices, and suspected fake hajj cards.
“Two of the three individuals were reported to be using Indonesian hajj official attire at the time of arrest,” she said.
Heni added that the Saudi Arabian government is intensifying law enforcement against various forms of illegal hajj violations, including attempts to bring pilgrims into the city of Mecca without permission.
