Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah Hosts Ramadan Market
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Jeddah held a Ramadan market as a means of relieving homesickness and providing a legal trading venue for Indonesian citizens.
Consul General Yusron Ambary said the event, titled “Ngabuburit di Hadigah Wisma,” also accommodated Indonesian citizens who usually gather in the park (hadigah), which often involves informal trading activities.
“By taking advantage of the momentum of Ramadan, why not move the illegal activities in the hadigah to the Indonesian Wisma and make it legal, while also providing a Ramadan atmosphere and a ‘war’ (stall) for breaking the fast like in Indonesia?” said Yusron in a written statement on Thursday (February 26).
According to him, the event also serves as a gathering for the Indonesian diaspora in Jeddah and its surroundings.
The first Ramadan market was held on February 20 and will be held again on February 27.
The KJRI recorded that around 350 visitors attended the first event, with 15 stalls managed by Indonesian citizens.
“Most of the residents who sell said that the profits they earned from their sales were quite good. Some vendors even sold out completely,” said Yusron.
He hopes that similar events can continue to be held and receive a positive response from the Indonesian diaspora.
