Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi Facilitates Repatriation of Three Indonesian Seafarers Surviving Ship Fire

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Karachi, Pakistan, has facilitated the return of three Indonesian crew members (ABK) who survived the fire on the commercial vessel MV Gold Autumn in the Arabian Sea on 7 April 2026. “The three Indonesian citizens (WNI) are scheduled to return to Indonesia from Karachi on 18 April 2026 and are expected to arrive in the homeland on 19 April 2026,” KJRI stated in a press release received in Jakarta on Sunday (19/4). It was mentioned that KJRI has provided intensive assistance to the three WNI since 10 April. The steps taken include facilitating the issuance of replacement passports, certificates of loss, and other important documents for the repatriation process. KJRI also ensured that the victims’ basic needs were met while in Karachi. In addition, KJRI continues to coordinate with the Directorate of WNI Protection of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant parties to ensure their return proceeds safely. KJRI is also working to ensure follow-up on the fulfilment of the crew members’ rights. KJRI urges all Indonesian citizens, especially those working in the shipping sector, to keep digital copies of personal documents and important contact numbers. Indonesian citizens are also asked to immediately contact the nearest Indonesian Representation if they face problems or emergency conditions. Previously, KJRI reported that the MV Gold Autumn experienced an explosion that triggered a fire while sailing from Shanghai to Oman. The Panama-flagged vessel, operated by a Chinese company, was about 200 nautical miles (approximately 370 kilometres) off the coast of Pakistan when the incident occurred. According to the Directorate of WNI Protection, the cause of the explosion is still unknown, and the investigation by local authorities is ongoing.
