Indonesian Consul-General Reveals Indonesians Abducted by Israel Suffer Torture: Kicked and Electrocuted
Nine Indonesian nationals abducted by the Israeli Defence Forces have been released on Thursday (21 May 2026) and are in Turkey after being flown out from the occupied Palestinian territory of the Negev.
The Indonesian Consul-General in Istanbul, Darianto Harsono, said the nine Indonesians who took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 were in Turkey. He confirmed that all nine Indonesians who were kidnapped by the Israeli forces were in good health.
‘We, the Indonesian Consul-General in Istanbul, alhamdulillah, today together with our nine brothers and sisters who joined the GSF (Global Sumud Flotilla) mission are with us in good health,’ he said in a video statement posted on the official Instagram account of the Indonesian Foreign Minister, @menluri, on Thursday evening.
He revealed that the Indonesians were detained for four to five days by the Israeli occupying forces. During the detention, the Indonesians reportedly endured various forms of abuse.
‘Although for three to four days they experienced physical violence, some were kicked, beaten, or electrocuted,’ said Darianto.
He stressed that the authorities would repatriate the Indonesians back home soon. The repatriation process would be carried out at the earliest opportunity.
‘We will endeavour to have our compatriots return home as soon as possible,’ he added.
