Indonesian Coffee Secures Rp66 Billion in Potential Transactions at Bangkok Expo
The Ministry of Trade, through the Indonesian Trade Attaché in Bangkok, recorded that Indonesian coffee products secured potential transactions worth USD 3.89 million, equivalent to Rp66 billion, through purchase commitments for 337 tonnes of coffee at the World of Coffee Bangkok 2026 event. The potential transactions were made with 60 prospective buyers via letters of intent (LoI). The buyers came from various countries, including Thailand, the Netherlands, South Korea, Canada, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Oman, India, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Finland, and Taiwan.
"Visitor enthusiasm for Indonesian coffee was very high, reflected in the numerous business commitments gathered during the exhibition," said Bangkok Trade Attaché Rafika Arfani. In preparation for the exhibition, Rafika highlighted several procedures that must be fulfilled to bring exhibitors’ coffee product samples into Thailand. These procedures include permits from Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Commerce, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and customs authorities. The same provisions also apply to all coffee product importers entering the Thai market.
Twenty coffee businesses from production centres in Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Papua participated in the exhibition. Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, Hari Prabowo, emphasised the significant potential of Thailand’s growing coffee market. According to him, coffee consumption in Thailand has nearly doubled in the last two years, from around 180 cups to 340 cups per capita per year. Meanwhile, Thailand’s coffee production of only about 15,600 tonnes per year remains far below its domestic demand, which exceeds 90,000 tonnes annually. "This situation makes Thailand a highly prospective market for Indonesian coffee to expand export penetration and strengthen its position in the Southeast Asian region," said Hari.
