Indonesian Citizens in Kumamoto Urged to Follow Japanese Authorities' Directives After M7.1 Earthquake

The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tokyo has urged all Indonesian nationals (WNI) in Japan to remain calm and heighten their vigilance following a magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture on Tuesday (28/7/2026) afternoon.

The earthquake occurred at around 16.35 local time. As of now, the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo stated that it had not received any reports of Indonesian nationals losing their lives in the incident.

Muhammad Al Aula, Coordinator of the Information and Socio-Cultural Function at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, asked Indonesian nationals in the affected areas to prioritise the safety of themselves and their families. He also emphasised the importance of monitoring official information from local authorities.

“To all Indonesian nationals in the Kumamoto Prefecture area, please remain calm and vigilant. Prioritise your safety and that of your families, and continue to monitor official information on the developing situation through the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA),” said Muhammad Al Aula in his official statement.

In addition, the embassy urged Indonesian nationals to ensure their mobile phones remain active and to conserve battery usage. This is necessary to facilitate emergency coordination should it be required at any time.
