Indonesian Celebrity Pair Interrogated Over Dana Syariah Scandal

Jakarta. The Indonesian police have questioned actors Dude Herlino and Alyssa Soebandono over their roles as brand ambassadors in an alleged Rp 1.4 trillion ($83 million) embezzlement case involving peer-to-peer lending platform Dana Syariah Indonesia (DSI).

The couple was interrogated for around five hours at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday, according to Brig. Gen. Susatyo Purnomo Condro, who leads the investigation.

“We are seeking their statements regarding their roles as brand ambassadors for DSI,” Susatyo said.

Investigators are examining whether the couple, who have served as DSI ambassadors for the past three years, had access to or knowledge of key information related to the company’s Sharia-based investment offerings during their promotional activities.

Police also questioned them on contractual arrangements, compensation, and their understanding of DSI’s business operations.

Dude denied any involvement in the alleged wrongdoing, emphasizing that his role was limited to promotional duties and did not include any managerial or operational responsibilities.

“My position in the company is as a professional hired solely as a brand ambassador,” he said.

Authorities began probing DSI late last year after lenders reported that funds they deposited between 2018 and 2025 were not returned. Following the complaints, Indonesian financial authorities froze DSI’s bank accounts and assets.

According to information published on DSI’s official website, the company has disbursed Rp 3.87 trillion ($230 million) in financing since its establishment in 2017, collected funds from 41,506 lenders, and extended loans to 1,440 borrowers.

DSI President Director Taufiq Aljufri has been named a fraud suspect in the case.
