Indonesian Businessmen Unprepared for Free Trade
TEMPO Interactive, Surakarta:Surakarta branch of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) chairman, Hardono, said that Surakarta businessmen are unprepared for the implementation of the ASEAN free trade in 2015. “Some businessmen do not even know that they will enter the ASEAN free trade zone in 2015, let alone preparing on how to deal with it,” he said yesterday.
Peter Jacobs, Bank Indonesia’s chief of Investment Relations and Foreign Review Analysis, said Indonesia is a good market. Many businessmen in other countries are vying to invest here. “What needs to be considered is how we can and should be not just a consumer, but also a producer,” he said.
According to Peter, the business sector must prepare themselves by building physical infrastructure, a positive business climate, and reduction of high-cost economy. Additionally, small to medium-scale business empowerment programs must be developed as well as the general quality of human resources.
