Indonesian Army soldier involved in assault in South Tangerang to face punishment
We will ensure the legal process runs in accordance with the applicable provisions, including in-depth chronology, witness statements, and gathering of evidence, said the Army Public Information Service (Dispenad) Head Brig. Gen. TNI Donny Pramono in a written statement received in Tangerang on Wednesday.
He said, based on the coordination results with the South Tangerang Police following the alleged assault, the serviceman identified by initials Peltu A has been secured and is undergoing questioning at Madenpom Jaya/1, Tangerang.
“Currently the serviceman involved has been secured and is being questioned by Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang,” he said.
He added that the examination process is ongoing and being conducted comprehensively to reveal the incident in full.
However, based on initial investigations, it is learned that the incident occurred due to a dispute arising from a vehicle bump. As a result, the serviceman is allegedly pointing an object resembling a pistol, which was later found to be a wooden toy gun.
In this regard, the Indonesian Army is ensuring swift handling of the incident. It will not tolerate any form of legal violations or actions that could undermine public trust.
“The Indonesian Army is committed to maintaining public trust as well as the professionalism of soldiers through a mechanism of law enforcement that is transparent and accountable,” he said.
Earlier, the South Tangerang Police Resort (Polres Tangsel), Metro Jaya Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya), had handled the alleged assault case by a man who claimed to be an official against the ride-hailing driver on Jalan Raya Puspiptek, Setu District.
The act went viral on the Instagram account @daschamindonesia. The incident began with two cars colliding.
The situation escalated when the man approached and assaulted the online driver. The victim was seen being slammed to the road while his hands were in handcuffs.
“Indeed there was a report to the South Tangerang Police on Monday, 2 March 2026. From the report, we conducted an investigation by questioning the victim and the reporter,” said Kasat Reskrim Polres Tangsel, AKP Wira Graha Setiawan.
Wira explained that the incident began with a collision between the two vehicles, which escalated into a dispute ending in violence.
“Some evidence and videos circulating are still being studied, and the suspected perpetrator has been handed over to the Denpom Jaya for further proceedings,” he said.
