Indonesian Army: Ryamizard Leaves Legacy of Service to the Nation

The Indonesian Army has stated that the passing of former Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) and Defence Minister General (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu is a significant loss for the TNI institution and the Indonesian nation, owing to his legacy of service in defence and military affairs. Head of the Army Public Affairs Office (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Donny Pramono said Ryamizard was a soldier who dedicated his life to the country through various strategic assignments within the TNI and government. “The Indonesian Army family extends its deepest condolences on the passing of General (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu. He was one of the nation’s finest sons, demonstrating unwavering loyalty, dedication, and a strong spirit of service to the country throughout his life,” Donny said in a statement on Sunday, 31 May 2026. Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at 14:03 WIB today at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto in Jakarta. Born in Palembang on 21 April 1950, he was the son of Brigadier General Musannif Ryacudu. During his military career, Ryamizard held various strategic positions before being appointed KSAD from 2002 to 2005. According to Donny, under his leadership, the Indonesian Army strengthened professionalism, discipline, and unit readiness to safeguard national sovereignty. After completing his military service, Ryamizard was appointed Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019. In this role, he played a part in strengthening the national defence system and enhancing the country’s defence capabilities amid a dynamic strategic environment. Donny noted that Ryamizard was known among soldiers as a firm, courageous, humble leader with a strong commitment to the nation’s interests. “His exemplary conduct, integrity, and spirit of service will continue to inspire future generations of Army personnel,” he said. The Indonesian Army also prayed for the late Ryamizard to be granted a place of honour with God Almighty and for his family to find strength in their grief. Donny stated that Ryamizard’s departure leaves a legacy of service that will be remembered in the history of the Indonesian Army and the nation’s journey.
