Indonesian Army Reveals Formation of 30 BTP and 155 Yon TP Units
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has revealed that to date, around 30 Territorial Development Brigades (BTP) and 155 Territorial Development Battalions (Yon TP) have been formed.
The Head of the Army Information Service (Kadispenad), Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono, stated that the formation of these units is being carried out gradually in accordance with the established plan.
“So, we can report that to date, the number of units deployed is around 30 Territorial Development Brigades (BTP) and 155 Territorial Development Battalions (Yon TP),” Donny explained when contacted on Thursday (23/4/2026).
TNI AD targets the formation of around 750 units, consisting of 593 Yon TP as well as 157 combat support and administrative support units.
“All of this will be implemented gradually, measurably, and based on regional needs, in accordance with the planning of TNI Headquarters and the Ministry of Defense,” he emphasised.
To meet this target, TNI AD’s territorial units are currently preparing land and supporting facilities for the development of Yon TP.
This step is taken to ensure the development process runs more optimally.
TNI AD assesses that the presence of the Yon TP units formed so far has provided significant contributions, particularly in supporting local governments.
“A clear example can be seen in the handling of disasters in the Sumatra region some time ago, where the presence of these units significantly accelerated the on-site response,” he said.
“Both for evacuation and assisting in the recovery of infrastructure and areas to normalise the lives of affected communities,” Donny added.
In addition, Yon TP is also seen as playing a role in supporting food security.
“They (Yon TP soldiers) become pioneers in mobilising communities to cultivate food security lands in the regions,” he concluded.
