Indonesian Army: Madiun Ammunition Depot Explosion Occurred During Inspection
The Indonesian Army has confirmed that an explosion at the Central Ammunition Depot in Saradan District, Madiun Regency, East Java, occurred while soldiers were carrying out maintenance and inspection procedures. One soldier was killed in the incident.
Brigadier General Donny Pramono, Head of the Army Information Service, stated that based on initial reports, the incident happened as personnel were following procedures for inspecting and maintaining materiel in one of the storage warehouses. He declined to provide detailed speculation on the primary cause of the explosion, noting that an investigation is currently underway.
In addition to the fatality, six other soldiers sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe. All victims have been taken to hospital for immediate medical treatment, and the incident has been reported through the proper procedural chain of command. The army is relying on an investigative team dispatched to Madiun to determine the root cause of the blast and has called on all parties to allow the investigators space to work optimally and to avoid speculation before the examination process is complete.
