Indonesian Army Has Built 7,217 Clean Water Points Since 2020
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD), General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, stated that to date, his organisation has built 7,217 water source points distributed throughout Indonesia.
This number, according to Maruli, has been established since the clean water point construction programme began in 2020.
Maruli made this statement while attending the Commanders’ Assembly of TNI Units for the 2026 Fiscal Year at the National Defence University (Unhan) in Sentul, West Java, on Wednesday (29/4).
In an official TNI AD press release received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday, Maruli explained that the programme originated when he observed many communities struggling to access clean water.
Based on those observations, Maruli, who was then serving in the region, took the initiative to build water points in dry areas.
He continued, building one water point after another until the total now reaches 7,217 points.
“Honestly, I gathered information about water while proceeding, so it wasn’t because I had prior information, then created these water programmes,” Maruli clarified.
With these water points in place, communities can easily obtain clean water to meet their daily needs.
Not only for daily use, Maruli said the water from the points they built is widely used by residents for agricultural purposes.
According to Maruli, this proves that TNI AD is not solely focused on defence but also pays attention to improving public welfare.
Maruli assessed this step as aligning with the policy direction of President Prabowo Subianto, who aims to bring prosperity to the people.
Therefore, Maruli is committed to continuing the clean water point construction programme.
