Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD), General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, stated that his organisation has successfully built 6,000 water points for public use. “We have already created around 6,000 water sources across Indonesia and will continue to implement this,” Maruli said to participants of the National Leadership Enhancement Education (P3N) Batch XXVII and the National Leadership Preparation and Enhancement Programme (P4N) Batch LXIX at the National Resilience Institute, as quoted from an official press release received in Jakarta on Friday. According to Maruli, the construction of these water sources is part of TNI AD’s efforts to assist community life. He explained that the majority of these water points were built in areas where access to clean water is difficult. With these water sources in place, the public can more easily obtain clean water for their daily needs. Moreover, these water points can also be utilised to irrigate rice fields and plantations managed by both communities and the government. Thus, the presence of these man-made water sources can strengthen local food granaries, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s desired food security programme. Maruli continued that his organisation is still striving to meet clean water needs by continuing to build more water points. “Our data indicates that around 27 million people have not yet enjoyed clean water,” Maruli clarified. He hopes that the construction of water points across all regions can proceed quickly and optimally.
