Indonesian Army Denies Discord with Armed Forces Headquarters Over Alert Status 1 Implementation
JAKARTA — The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has denied being out of alignment with the Armed Forces Headquarters (Mabes TNI) regarding the implementation of Alert Status 1 across all TNI ranks.
The clarification came after the Army Chief of Staff (KASAD) General Maruli Simanjuntak had stated that there was no implementation of Alert Status 1 across the TNI.
“I am clarifying that there is no disagreement between Mabes TNI and the Army, not at all,” said Brigadier General Donny Pramono, Head of the TNI AD Information Service, at Armed Forces Headquarters in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Donny emphasised that the Indonesian Army operates under Mabes TNI and remains loyal in carrying out all orders given and stands ready to execute any assigned duties.
Maruli made his earlier statement on Saturday, 7 March 2026 in the morning when questioned by journalists.
“The journalists asked that in the morning, so indeed at that time there had not been any written alert order received yet. So perhaps in conveying it to a journalist, one journalist, there was none,” Donny explained.
However, later that afternoon, it was announced that there was an Alert Status 1 activity, which constituted a direct order from Armed Forces Commander General Agus Subiyanto.
According to him, this status represents an internal mechanism for maintaining soldier readiness.
He added that this readiness was also linked to several future agendas, including security arrangements for Eid al-Fitr.
In its implementation, the TNI will assist the National Police in maintaining security during this period.
