Indonesian Army Confirms Strict Action Against Violating Personnel

Indonesian Army confirms strict action against personnel violating ethics or criminal laws. This was stated by Army Public Affairs Chief Brigadier General Donny Pramono in response to numerous cases involving Army personnel going viral on social media. ‘We do not defend violations, nor are we overly defensive about actions taken; we aim to demonstrate institutional firmness while encouraging the public to think objectively,’ Donny said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, 29 May 2026.

According to Donny, the Army has already taken strict action against personnel proven to have violated the law. Several cases have reached court, with proceedings publicly accessible.

However, Donny urged the public not to assume all Army personnel are involved in criminal cases. He noted that the number of law-breaking personnel is far smaller than those serving the public. ‘Many humanitarian missions go unreported; let not thousands of service members’ contributions be overshadowed by a few bad apples,’ he said.

Donny called for the public to view the situation objectively and avoid negative conclusions about the Army. He also confirmed internal evaluations to improve personnel performance, including staff development, ideological strengthening, internal oversight, and digital literacy training.

Previously, the Army was linked to several criminal cases, including a viral social media case involving the alleged abduction and murder of a bank branch head, MIP (37), in 2025. The crime was committed by three Army personnel: Serka Mochamad Nasir, Kopda Feri Herianto, and Serka Frengky Yaru. The case is currently being heard at Military Court II-08 in Jakarta.
