Jakarta — The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) completed construction of a bailey bridge in Sifalago Gomo Village, Boronadu District, South Nias Regency, North Sumatra, on Tuesday, 10 March.

According to an official press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday, the bridge was built to replace the connection between Sifalago Gomo Village and Balohili Gomo Village, which had been damaged by flooding disaster some time previously.

The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD), General Maruli Simanjuntak, stated in a press release that the bridge is one of hundreds constructed by the TNI AD at disaster-affected locations across the Sumatra region.

“In disaster-affected areas, 145 bridges have been completed. With regards to those under construction, there are currently 1,076 bridges in progress, so something is completed every day,” Maruli said in the press release.

Maruli continued that the Army is constructing various types of bridges in disaster-affected areas, ranging from bailey to armco types.

The bridge was constructed by TNI AD units in their respective areas, such as this bailey bridge in Nias, which was built by the Natural Disaster Mitigation Task Force (Gulbencal) of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan.

Maruli assured that the Army will continue to encourage its personnel to accelerate bridge construction so it can be used by the community.

With the completion of this bridge, Maruli hopes that infrastructure and the economy in disaster-affected areas will gradually recover.
