Indonesian Army Ammunition Depot in Madiun Explodes

An explosion was reported at the Central Ammunition Depot (Gupusmu) II of the Army Equipment Centre (Puspalad) on the Madiun-Surabaya highway, Saradan District, Madiun Regency, on Thursday (16/7). Based on information gathered, a number of casualties were taken to Caruban Madiun Regional General Hospital, suspected to be due to the explosion. “Please give us time, as the scene is within the territory of our TNI colleagues,” said Madiun Police Public Relations Head, First Inspector Anita Dyah Puspitosari. Head of Information for the 081/DSJ Madiun Military Resort Command (Kapenrem), Infantry Captain Ismail, confirmed the explosion but stated he was not authorised to comment. “Gupusmu is under Puspalad, not under Korem,” he said. Meanwhile, the Information Service of the V/Brawijaya Regional Military Command stated it would soon provide an official statement.
