Indonesian and US Marines Conduct Mass Casualty Training in Hawaii

Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Indonesian Navy Marine Corps collaborated with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in a mass casualty training (MASCAL) simulation for handling large numbers of injured disaster victims, held in Hawaii, United States, on Sunday (26/7).

According to an official press release received in Jakarta on Tuesday, the exercise forms part of the joint Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026 training exercise.

Chief of the Indonesian Navy Information Office (Kadispenal), Rear Admiral Tunggul, confirmed to ANTARA in Jakarta that the training was held to enhance the ability of Navy Marines to work swiftly, precisely and accurately when handling large numbers of casualties.

“This exercise also serves as a means of exchanging knowledge, experience and techniques for handling victims effectively and efficiently in military operations and humanitarian assistance missions,” said Tunggul.

He added that the series of exercises was carried out in accordance with safety procedures to ensure the wellbeing of the troops involved.

“The series of exercises ran smoothly and safely,” he said.

With this activity, Tunggul expressed hope that the capabilities of Navy Marine personnel would be further strengthened and that military cooperation between Indonesia and the United States would grow even closer.

RIMPAC is the world’s largest multilateral maritime exercise, involving 31 countries, around 30,000 personnel, 28 warships, five submarines, 30 fighter aircraft and 20 land force elements.

The exercise, taking place in Hawaii from 24 June to 31 July, aims to improve interoperability and professionalism, and to strengthen maritime defence cooperation in facing a range of regional and global security challenges.
