Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait is ready to discuss the housing sector through to technology with the Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China.

According to Maruarar Sirait, who is familiarly known as Ara, the meeting with the Chinese housing minister is planned for Wednesday (29 July) and will discuss how housing is handled in both China and Indonesia.

At the meeting, he said, the plan is also to discuss the exploration of cooperation, as well as matters relating to technology and so on.

“Whatever we can cooperate on, whether technology and so on,” said Ara.

He revealed that housing provision in urban areas is directed through the development of vertical dwellings, given that housing provision problems, particularly in urban areas, are faced with limited land for house construction.

The homeownership backlog remains a major problem, he said. Nationally, the homeownership backlog has reached 9.6 million units based on the 2025 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas).

According to him, this is also an instruction from President Prabowo Subianto that land should not be used too extensively for housing, hence the direction towards vertical dwellings.

Ara revealed that land provided by the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) is being utilised for the construction of apartment blocks and satellite cities for the public.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) is strengthening its support for the National Strategic Programme (PSN) through the Development of Vertical Housing Settlements and Satellite Cities.

Minister of ATR/Head of BPN Nusron Wahid said support is provided through the provision of large-scale land in various regions of Indonesia.

The ATR/BPN Ministry has prepared potential land spread across a number of regions, including on the islands of Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.
