Indonesian Ambassador States Iran Under Attack by 'Another Country'; Condition of 329 Indonesian Citizens Remains Safe
According to reports, approximately 329 Indonesian nationals (WNI) are currently caught up in the situation in Iran. The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has stated that these hundreds of Indonesian citizens are being registered to ensure their safety. Indonesia’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Iran, Roy Soemirat, reported on Thursday, 28 February 2026, that the country of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei is in a state of war following an attack by another country, which he refrained from naming directly.
“The current situation in Iran is related to attacks against Iran by several other countries this morning, Iran time. The concentration of the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran continues to maintain two-way communication with all Indonesian nationals in Iran, across all cities in Iran,” said Roy through an audio press statement received by Republika in Jakarta on Saturday, 28 February 2026. “At least 329 Indonesian nationals have reported themselves and are officially registered with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran,” he stated.
As of this report’s publication, there is no official record of any Indonesian nationals being injured following Iran becoming a target of the attacks. However, the embassy has assured that it will continue to monitor the development of the situation, including providing safety measures for Indonesian nationals in the country.
Republika also contacted several Indonesian nationals and students in Tehran and Qom. However, no successful communication was established to confirm the condition of these citizens and students.
