Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Pandjaitan Sjahrir reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening Indonesia-Japan relations after presenting an official copy of her letter of credence at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (17 February).

“Both nations are committed to strengthening diplomatic relations and enhancing cooperation across various strategic areas, including defence and security, the economy, people-to-people exchanges, and improving the quality of human resources,” Kartini said, as quoted in a press release from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo.

The two countries also agreed to intensify the implementation of the Indonesia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as a foundation for sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Kartini was accompanied by Deputy Ambassador Maria Renata Hutagalung and Protocol and Consular Function Coordinator Dara Yusilawati when she presented the copy of the letter of credence to Chief of Protocol at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Miyashita Tadayuki.

Kartini stated that the occasion represented an important step in strengthening diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two nations.

With a spirit of collaboration, she said, both countries are believed to be capable of continuing to move forward as close and trusted strategic partners.

The presentation of the official copy of the letter of credence marks the formal commencement of Kartini Sjahrir’s duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Japan, concurrently accredited to the Federated States of Micronesia.

The original letter of credence is scheduled to be presented to Emperor Naruhito of Japan in the near future.
