JAKARTA - The Indonesian National Armed Forces Air Force (TNI AU) targets having 30 radar units (satrad) by 2029 to cover areas that are currently unmonitored or blind spots. “This is in progress, God willing, by 2029 everything will be installed according to plan. There will eventually be 30 satrad, currently 20 satrad,” said the Chief of Air Staff (KSAU) Air Marshal TNI Mohamad Tonny Harjono at the TNI AU Headquarters, Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4/2026). To achieve this target, the TNI AU will receive around 25 new radars to strengthen the national air monitoring system. “The radars we currently have are 20 satrad that are already outdated, but still functioning well,” he explained. According to Tonny, the current limitations in the number and range of radars result in several areas still not covered by monitoring. In December 2025, Tonny had previously stated that the addition of 25 radars consists of 13 replacements for operating radars, plus 12 radars in locations not yet reached by these aircraft tracking devices.
