Indonesian Air Force enhances personnel capability to face radar technology developments

Modernising the radar system is not only focused on renewing weaponry and equipment, but must also be balanced with improving the quality of the human resources who operate, maintain and develop it.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is enhancing its personnel’s capabilities in radar control through the Radar Modernisation and Technology Development Workshop for the 2026 Fiscal Year, aimed at strengthening the air defence system.

Deputy Assistant for Communications and Electronics to the Air Force Chief of Staff (Waaskomlek KSAU), Air Vice-Marshal TNI Gatot Sutomo, said strengthening the radar system is necessary to face continually evolving air defence threats.

“Modernising the radar system does not only focus on updating weaponry and equipment, but must also be balanced with improving the quality of the human resources who operate, maintain and develop it,” Gatot said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Gatot, developments in military technology, such as stealth aircraft, hypersonic missiles and electronic warfare capabilities, require TNI AU to continuously strengthen its radar system capabilities.

Therefore, TNI AU continues to develop radar technology so it is able to detect various aerial threats with the potential to disrupt national security.

Beyond modernising equipment, TNI AU is also emphasising improvements in personnel competence so they are able to operate, maintain and develop the radar system optimally.

Gatot expressed hope that the training can deepen personnel’s understanding of radar technology developments, enabling them to optimise its application in support of air defence operations.
