Indonesian Academic Presents Scientific Ideas at 2026 European Youth Summit in Switzerland

Amid increasingly complex global challenges, Indonesia has once again demonstrated the capabilities of its people on the international stage. Academic and legal expert Dr. Fatma Ulfatun Najicha represented the nation at the 2026 European Youth Summit in Geneva, Switzerland, held from 5 to 8 June. A lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and Chair of the UNS Centre for Public Policy and Energy Law Studies, Dr. Fatma was selected through a competitive process to join the forum, which convened 210 delegates from around the world. The summit served as a strategic platform for building dialogue, strengthening diplomacy, and formulating collaborative solutions to global challenges. Dr. Fatma stressed that the summit was far more than a ceremonial gathering. “This forum is a strategic platform for building dialogue, strengthening international collaboration, developing leadership capacity, and weaving cross-nation friendships to present solutions for global challenges,” she stated. During the four-day event, delegates engaged in strategic sessions covering Public Policy, Diplomacy, Global Governance, and the role of negotiation leadership in creating sustainable global impact. Dr. Fatma specifically raised the urgency of Ecological Justice as a crucial foundation for sustainable global development. She argued that current global challenges are not limited to economic, political, and security issues but are deeply intertwined with environmental degradation caused by climate change, uncontrolled resource exploitation, ecosystem decline, and threats to human sustainability. “Ecological Justice must become a cornerstone in every policy-making process. The world needs leadership that can balance development interests with environmental protection for the sake of future generations,” she asserted. Her views align with her academic focus on Public Policy, Environmental Law, and Sustainable Energy. Through her research and scientific publications, she consistently develops policy concepts that integrate legal frameworks, environmental governance, and sustainable energy transition as responses to climate change. Dr. Fatma believes international forums like the European Youth Summit are strategic spaces for introducing the perspective of Ecological Justice as part of a global solution. She emphasised that cross-country collaboration, regulatory strengthening, policy innovation, and leadership development are key to building a more sustainable, inclusive, and just global governance system. Her participation demonstrates that Indonesian academics contribute not only through education and research but also actively in global diplomacy by offering scientific ideas relevant to strategic world issues. From Geneva, the spirit of collaboration, leadership, and dedication is brought home as new energy to strengthen national development and reinforce Indonesia’s position in international affairs. “Carrying the Red and White flag to a world forum is not only an honour but also a mandate to voice Indonesian values, build bridges of collaboration between nations, and present real contributions for a more just, sustainable, and prosperous world,” Dr. Fatma concluded.
