Indonesia wins two golds at Asian Physics Olympiad

“The Indonesian team won two gold medals, three bronze medals, and three honorable mentions at the 26th APhO,” according to an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

The two gold medals were secured by Ackhava Adam Malonda from SMA Wardaya Jakarta and Evan Syatia To from SMAK Penabur Gading Serpong, Tangerang.

Meanwhile, the three bronze medals were awarded to Gusti Komang Abhika Atmaja from SMA Kesatuan Bangsa Yogyakarta, Juan Richie from SMA Kristen Immanuel Pontianak, and Bagasmora Andreo Sibarani from SMA Darma Yudha Pekanbaru.

The three students who received honorable mentions were Ferrel Gabriel from SMAK 1 Penabur Jakarta, Arrow Dunatos Pascha Kristian from SMAN Unggulan MH Thamrin Jakarta, and Kayser Huang from SMA Darma Yudha Pekanbaru.

In the final standings, Indonesia ranked behind South Korea, China, Taiwan, and Russia, while outperforming Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, India, Vietnam, Australia, and Israel.

The 26th APhO was organized by the Korean Physical Society and attended by 28 teams, with a total of 208 participants from countries and regions across Asia, as well as guest countries.

The Indonesian team was led by Herry Kwee, Zainul Abidin, and Jong Anly Tan. The selection and training process was organized by the Sinergi Mencerdaskan Tunas Negeri Foundation through three open and free selection stages.

The team is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on May 26, 2026, at 12:40 a.m. WIB on flight VN635.
