Indonesia wins only bronze on day nine

Novan Iman Santosa, The Jakarta Post, Busan, South Korea

Cycling contributed a bronze medal, the only medal for Indonesia
on Day nine of the Busan 2002 Asian Games on Monday, when cyclist
Santia Tri Kusuma finished third at the women's 24-kilometer
points race event at the Geumjeon Velodrome in the Geumjeon
Sports Complex here.

Santia collected a total of 21 points while host Kim Yong-mi
grabbed 38 points for the gold medal and Ayumu Otsuka of Japan
won the silver with 31.

"I am very happy that I could contribute a medal to the
contingent," said Santia after the match.

"It is just too bad that Uyun was feeling sick and she could
not do much today." Santia said, referring to teammate Uyun
Muzizah who was ill during the race and could only finish ninth.

Coach Wahyudi Hidayat, however, said that Uyun's poor health
had allowed Santia to go unnoticed.

"Other cyclists, especially from China always kept their eyes
on Uyun during the race unaware of her illness.

"They were carried away by Uyun's slow pace leaving Santia to
speed up and grab the bronze medal."

Earlier, Uyun had provided Indonesia with two silver medals
from the women's individual road race and 3-kilometer individual
time trial events.

Meanwhile, Indonesian cyclists Teguh Eko Pambudi, Kohar,
Rochmat Nugraha and Suwandra failed to grab any medals in the
men's 4-kilometer team pursuit.

Separately in Busan's Yachting Center, the windsurfing
organizing committee decided to cancel the seventh race citing
"mistakes on buoy placements" at the men's heavy mistral event.

On Monday the organizers planned to make up the seventh race
and squeeze in the eighth as well.

The seventh race was initially slated for Sunday, but it was
postponed until Monday because of heavy rain all day.

I Gusti Made Oka Sulaksana, however, kept his lead after
collecting the least penalties -- seven points -- after the
seventh of the scheduled 11 races.

Following Oka were Chinese Mo Zhehai and Japanese Kenzo
Motokazu with 12 and 15 penalty points respectively.

Another Indonesian windsurfer, Fadly Faisal was in last place
in the men's light board event after 38 penalty points.
