The Indonesian government has welcomed the agreement between the United States (US) and Ukraine to propose a 30-day ceasefire to Russia. Indonesia views this as a positive step towards achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine.

‘Indonesia welcomes the agreement between the United States and Ukraine on the proposal for a 30-day interim ceasefire in Ukraine,’ said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) via its official X (Twitter) account, @Kemlu_RI, on Thursday.

Indonesia hopes that Russia will accept the proposal and that it can be implemented immediately. ‘Indonesia hopes this proposal will be accepted by Russia and implemented immediately as a crucial step towards a final peace agreement,’ Kemlu stated.

Indonesia also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter. ‘Indonesia is ready to contribute to all efforts towards peace in Ukraine, in line with international law and the UN Charter,’ Kemlu emphasised.

As previously reported, Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept a US proposal for an immediate 30-day interim ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement between the parties. The agreement was reached following talks between US and Ukrainian delegations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday (11/3).

A joint statement by the US and Ukraine said the ceasefire proposal was subject to acceptance and simultaneous implementation by Russia. ‘The United States will convey to Russia that reciprocity from Russia is key to achieving peace,’ the statement read.

‘The United States will immediately lift the pause on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine,’ the statement continued. The two delegations also agreed to conclude a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible to develop Ukraine’s critical mineral resources.
