JAKARTA - Indonesia has welcomed the ceasefire between the United States (US) and Iran.

“We believe that we welcome all efforts to reduce escalation of tensions,” said State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

This decision is considered beneficial for the global community, which has long been affected by the conflict.

He did not deny that the conflict between the two countries has spillover effects on all nations, including Indonesia.

“After all, we have repeatedly felt together that what happens in other parts of the world also affects our lives in our country,” he stated.

Therefore, he welcomes all such efforts.

“So, we welcome all efforts, and the President himself continues to make efforts to persuade the parties to reduce escalation of tensions,” said Prasetyo.

According to Al Jazeera on Wednesday (8/4/2026), the council emphasised that the ceasefire does not mean the war is over.

“Our finger remains on the trigger, and if the enemy makes even the smallest mistake, it will be met with full force,” stated Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

Previously, US President Donald Trump threatened to raze Iran if Tehran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

He set a deadline of Tuesday (7/4/2026) at 20:00 Eastern Time (ET) on the US East Coast, which is Wednesday (8/4/2026) at 03:30 Tehran time, or Wednesday at 07:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
