The Indonesian government has enthusiastically welcomed the political agreement on the Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), which was officially announced in Brussels, Belgium. The milestone marks a diplomatic success following nine years of intensive negotiations since 2016.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, stated that the implementation of IEU-CEPA has the potential to double bilateral trade values to USD 60 billion within the coming years.

"Beyond boosting exports, this agreement is also expected to attract a wave of foreign direct investment (FDI) into various strategic sectors such as manufacturing, downstreaming, renewable energy, and industrial digitalisation," he explained in a written statement on Saturday (26/7/2025).

One of the key achievements in the agreement is the completion of the Investment Chapter, a section that had for years been a critical sticking point in the negotiation process. Under the coordination of Rosan Roeslani and the negotiating team led by Deputy for Investment Cooperation at the Ministry of Investment, Prof. Dr. Tirta Nugraha Mursitama, Indonesia successfully agreed upon investment principles that are fair, open, and competitive.
